IPLM Digital Library Project
KEDES signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Indian Public Library Movement (IPLM) on 22nd June, 2016 and it came to effective from 01st July, 2016. Under this project, KEDES proposes to work with 18 public libraries at the State/ District/ Taluk/ Panchayat levels spread across four Districts of Kerala.
The main objective of the project is to strengthen the existing State Central Library, three (3) District Libraries and work with 14 spoke digital libraries cum knowledge centres in selected Panchayats of Kerala to cater to the emerging needs of communities in a sustainable way.
Sub- Objectives:
- Train and motivate the library staff to meet the emerging community needs
- Reposition libraries as a public space for community at large and serve the communities better
- Introduce relevant new services in all 18 libraries that are relevant for the community and make it as a cultural and knowledge hub to provide community specific information, knowledge, and skills like digital literacy, financial literacy, employable skills, etc
- Showcase the best practices to various stakeholders and advocate for replication and scale-up
